HTM trains water rescue for the case of emergency

04. Nov 2022

Together with the Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft (DLRG) and the Medizinisches Katastrophen-Hilfswerk (MHW), various challenging rescue scenarios were trained last week at Klostersee (Traunstein district).

Last year, the flood disaster in the Ahr valley made it particularly clear how important fast and qualified help from the air is and how many lives can be saved as a result.

DLRG, MHW and HTM took this as an opportunity to train water rescue and various scenarios: The rescue of casualties from the water, the rescue of people seeking help from rooftops or the safe rescue from a balcony.

An EC135 with rescue winch as well as the flight crew consisting of pilots and winch operator from HTM were deployed.

Not an everyday mission even for experienced crews: "Last year showed us all how important winch rescue from the air can be. In order to be prepared for such scenarios in the future, trainings like today are extremely important for the safe and professional cooperation between all parties involved: From the flying crew to the rescue personnel in the water or on land - everything has to go hand in hand and for this we practice under such challenging conditions," says HTM pilot Werner Greipl.
